Learning Goals
• Demonstrate mastery of basic borrowing mechanics and interest calculations.
• Distinguish between revolving and installment credit models.
• Analyze a credit card statement to identify balances and interest traps.
Student Facing Learning Goals

• I can perform basic loan and interest calculations independently.

Lesson
Warm Up
4.7.1: The Financial Review
Launch: Have students sit independently at their desks. Present the prompt verbally or project it. Give them 4 minutes to write.
Synthesis: Rapid-fire share out. Establish the baseline: Credit is a financial tool that magnifies your choices. If used poorly, it magnifies your losses.
Student Facing Task
Without looking at your notes, write down the single most dangerous debt trap we have studied in Unit 4 so far. Is it the minimum payment trap, a BNPL late fee, or a long loan term? Why?
Activity 1
4.7.2: Assessment Part 1 - Concepts & Terms
Launch: Distribute Part 1 of the Mid-Unit Assessment. Monitor independent work.
Synthesis: N/A (Summative Assessment).
Student Facing Task
Complete the multiple-choice, matching, and vocabulary section of your assessment independently.
Activity 2
4.7.3: Assessment Part 2 - Statement Analysis
Launch: Distribute Part 2 of the Mid-Unit Assessment. Monitor independent work.
Synthesis: N/A (Summative Assessment).

Complete the calculation and analysis section. Use the sample credit card statement provided to calculate interest charges and find the minimum payment trap. Show all of your math.
Lesson Synthesis
Lesson Synthesis (5 min)
Narrative: Collect the assessments. Congratulate the class on clearing the first hurdle of the unit. Preview the next section: "Now that we know how basic credit works, we are going to look at the second largest purchase most Americans ever make: buying a car."
Cool Down
4.7.4: Post-Assessment Reflection
Narrative: This exit ticket prompts a personal reflection on learning gaps before moving to auto loans.
Teacher Rubric: Look for specific conceptual tracking (e.g., "I confused statement balance with current balance").
Student Facing Task
Which specific calculation or credit concept on today's quiz felt the most challenging, and what step will you take to master it before the final unit exam?
