Warm Up

1.11.1: The Core Review

Launch: Have students sit independently at their desks. Present the prompt verbally. Give them 4 minutes.

Synthesis: Rapid-fire share out. Remind students that understanding macroeconomics is the defensive shield that protects their personal microeconomics.

Student Facing Task

Without looking at your notes, explain the mathematical difference between your "Marginal" tax rate and your "Effective" tax rate.

Activity 1

1.11.2: Assessment Part 1 - Vocabulary & Concepts

Launch: Distribute Part 1 of the Mid-Unit Assessment. Monitor independent work.

Synthesis: N/A (Summative Assessment).

Student Facing Task

Complete the multiple-choice and vocabulary section independently. Ensure you can differentiate between monetary and fiscal policy, and hourly versus exempt salaried positions.

Activity 2

1.11.3: Assessment Part 2 - Paystub & Tax Math

Launch: Distribute Part 2 of the Mid-Unit Assessment. Monitor independent work.

Synthesis: N/A (Summative Assessment).

Student Facing Task

Complete the applied math section. You will analyze a complex paystub, calculate take-home pay, and apply progressive tax brackets to determine a simulated tax liability. Show all of your math.

Lesson Synthesis

Narrative: Collect the assessments. Congratulate the class on mastering the foundational math of the economy. Preview the next phase: "Now that we understand how income is taxed and paid, we need to learn how to actually get hired. Tomorrow, we build the resumes."

Cool Down

1.11.4: The Economic Reflection

Narrative: This exit ticket prompts a personal reflection for instructional alignment. Teacher Rubric: Look for a specific identification of a mastered concept (e.g., "I know how a progressive tax bracket works") and a practical application of that knowledge to their future career.

Student Facing Task

Which concept from the first half of this unit completely changed how you view your future paycheck, and why?
